Securing Team ahead of Sell-Day

Hi guys. I’ve got a SA in LND this summer, and a sell day coming up next month for the teams. As far I am aware it is normal standard procedure, meet teams, rank favourites, they choose etc.

I have a specific team in CapMarkets that I am desperate to get into. I was wondering how best to position yourself for a certain team and whether to reach out to see if I can get a coffee chat with someone ahead of the sell day to build some rapport. Is this a good idea and how should I go about it if so? Any tips?

Cheers

I think that being pro-active about it is good but you shouldn't just have one team in mind. I would recommend speaking to alumni/people from your country/past interviewers/people you met at events and chat on the phone/go for coffee but like reach out to 1-2 people max, preferably juniors. You should seem a bit naive and be like hey, curious what this is all about we always speak about coverage, but I am keen to understand more niche areas or something like this. Then come the sell-day you can say whatever that junior told you and also bring that you met X person to the MD or something, that shows that you'll have some connection in the group already, but knowing the entire group would be odd.

I did that for my SA and got placed into the group I reached out to.

Thanks for the reply man. The internship is capmarket specific and so there is only like 5 teams on offer anyway. Would you recommend going via HR for this or reaching out to people via linkedin etc? I'm just concerned that if I email HR saying "can I meet someone from X team" they are A. going to be pissed I'm not following procedure and say no and B. ask why I am so interested in that team and think I'm trying to game my way in.

I just find this team interesting and actually want to spend my summer doing it lol
