seeking advice on college major

Hi, I'm a freshman of a liberal arts college, so it doesn't offer finance courses. I don't think it's a target although several graduates get into Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley. I've just started to know finance service industry and considering what major to take. I'm really not interested in computer science or math or statistics...I want to double major in economics and another one, such as political science, philosophy or biochemistry. Does a second major like above undermine my copetitiveness in finance? If so, should I transfer to a school which provides finance courses? Thanks!

Finance courses play a very small role in your success getting into IB. Pick a major that interests you, you feel is somewhat relevant to your future, and you will do well in. You can make up for a lack of exact finance knowledge with interview prep. Pretty hard to make up for a low GPA.

I think if you're not interested in maths or statistics you will probably find finance really hard. And I don't just mean hard to get to, I mean hard to do in general. It's impossible to get through a day working in finance without using some maths or statistics. Contrary to what most people think about finance, you can't just get away with meeting clients all day while the "number-crunching monkeys" do their thing on the computer for you. You will have to do some real work probably, which will involve maths and statistics. If you like politics or philosophy consider another career choice. The only thing which could help you that you say you like is biochemistry, which might come in handy if you end up in a pharmaceuticals M&A team.
