"Self taught" financial modelling
I am working full time in strategy consulting and I am trying to lateral into Investment Banking. The biggest obstacle in my way is proving to people that I know how to produce financial models.
I know how to produce financial models as I have self taught myself.
Is it ok to say on my CV that I have self taught myself financial modelling?
The other option is in my work I am tenatively identifying mergers and acquisition opportunities. At our firm we don't do any financial modelling and I have had no experience of financial modelling in a business setting.
Would it be ok to say that I have produced financial models regarding companies I have come across at work in my spare time at home? Although the problem is that noone at my work has any knowledge I have done this.
Why don't you just take a self study financial modeling course?

I think your lateral play and chances will be much different dependent on the strategy firm you're currently at. Can you give us some more about your tenure and tier of firm?
It is a boutique consulting firm and I have started working their since the start of this January. I interned their from Nov-Dec. It is a very small firm but it is very highly regarded , has many of the ftse 100 firms as clients and they call themselves world leaders.
Due to the small nature of the firm I have been given a lot of responsibility and good projects.
I would avoid saying "Self taught myself financial modeling" and go the BIWS certification route
