Jefferies has been a sweatshop across most of the groups (some more than others) for a pretty long time. A lot of this has to do with the Drexel/DLJ roots. I think being a sweatshop isn't related to culture as much as it is related to the sheer number of hours. Jefferies has a great junior culture but due to the leanness of the teams and the overall growth the bank is experiencing, most of the groups are somewhat short-staffed. This leads to longer hours overall.

Also at Jefferies and can confirm. It is mostly a staffing issue. Bank is growing very rapidly and picks up more mandates than it can handle. The groups are actively hiring but existing juniors are out the door by the time the new hires come in and ramp up. It's a constant issue of not having enough resources and people who stay have to take on more responsibility and staffings which causes burnout.

Which group(s) specifically if u dont mind me asking? Any idea what average hours could look like in the sweatier groups there?
