SMBC Lending Management Group

Hello everyone of WSO. I have a super day coming up with the Lending Management Group at SMBC for their analyst program and I was wondering if anyone has any insights on the group?

Job Description:

Within CIBC, the Lending Management Group is responsible for end to end deal execution and portfolio management. The main function of this role is to provide analytical support to the senior members of the LMG team. This individual will support associates and senior level staff in preparing credit applications for approval by the risk management department, reviewing quarterly financial and annual reports, conducting regular credit analysis of the clients in the portfolio, providing research and analytics, and performing other administrative responsibilities as well as ad-hoc tasks as required. You will conduct financial analysis on our clients to assess both historical performance and future expectations. You will gather supporting documentation to facilitate execution of client transactions, liaise with middle and back office for KYC purposes, and handle a variety of system and credit administrative issues related to our clients such as internal grading and monthly/quarterly reporting.

I lateraled in as an associate in that group. Did not stay for long mostly because the work itself was tedious, the internal processes and the system they make you use sucks, and the deals were boring. But I think as a new graduate it's a better option. You will learn some decent credit fundamentals and work with blue chip names as a tier 2 or 3 lender. People generally lateral well out of the bank to LevFin, DCM, and corporate banking roles. A solid backup option.

From what you have experienced while there are internal laterals to other teams possible/not frowned on?

Hello I have an upcoming interview for this position and would love to hear any insights you might have. I'm not able to PM you so if possible could you please PM me? Thanks!

Currently at SMBC and thinking about a lateral move. Was wondering if you mentioned all the downsides (tedious, processes, boring deals) when interviewing elsewhere? Or is constructively dogging on a place generally not acceptable?

hi, have superday next week in LMG, can you share about your superday experience? specifically any technicals/deal-related questions?

have a superday next week, can you speak to technicals i should expect? mostly been prepping with general IB technicals but not risk/credit related, dk what I should look for. also can you talk about what the analysts do specifically?

I also have a superday tomorrow. I was wondering if there was anyone who can shed more light on the types of clients they have worked with in the LMG group.

Hey, I'm actually in the process of applying for the role. I was wondering if you could share with me your experience of the process (i.e., what technicals you got, etc).
