I'll be 24 when i graduate with my Masters (not MBA) and I really have my heart set on working in NYC immediately after graduating LBS, I assume it would have to be on an H1B Visa from my research, but I want to know if anyone else knows or has had experience with this situation. Will the London Business School name make it easier for me to get hired and get my Visa sponsored? Am I more likely to get sponsorship from a BB or from a boutique? Is it easier to get sponsored in some areas more than others, for instance do more non-americans get hired into analyst positions in IBD than S&T or anything like that?

LBS, although great for recruitment, won't do shit for Visa apps as you need a degree from a US institution.
From everything I've researched it seems as though you just need to have a degree of some sort, I have never seen it said anywhere that the degree must be from a US institution?
you could probably get some bullshit degree in like 6 months from devry online or something just so you can qualify as quickly and as easily as possible. the LBS degree will help A LOT.

Here's an example of what I mean - it just says that you need the 'equivalent of a US Bachelor's degree'. And then further down it just says the requirement is a degree (doesn't say US) or 3 years work experience for each year missing from a 4 year degree.
Other sources online are identical - they just say the equivalent of a US degree, or they just say a degree is needed.
This is quite an important point for me, so if anyone can clarify exactly I would be very grateful.

Yes, there is a cap for H1B, but for the past 2 years the quota was not even close to filling, so don't worry about it.
Your best bet would be a BB, elite boutiques might sponsor, but I am not sure. I know for a fact that GS, MS, JPM, BAML, DB, UBS, Citi and Barcap sponsor for visa. I also know that RBS does not, so other "smaller" banks might not as well.
And yes, it is better if you apply for IBD/S&T/AM or any other front office role. For instance JPM sponsors for H1B only for front office roles, whereas GS sponsors for back office as well. I believe most banks would sponsor for quant positions even if it's not a front office role. Hope this helps.
Well the quotas surely got filled (or was expected to be filled - didn't have time to google more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H-1B_visa#Quotas_and_changes_in_quotas ) Some friends (Indians with degrees outside the US) who got recruited by Lehman for New York (in 2007) didn't get the visas in the lottery and had to be offered other desks in other locations. But with a BB you do have a good chance of getting the visa (as mentioned above).
For what it's worth, here's what I think:
LBS is the Wharton of Europe. You will have no problem getting any job over there (or a job in the the USA for that matter). But, recruiting will be stronger there for London. You could probably get into a stronger firm in the UK, then change offices.
If you are a good performer with your qualifications, they will generally be quite happy to do so after ~1 year.
Get the best job you can, then get a visa. But, if you really want to be in NYC immediately, you can do it. It just might be more difficult to get the really elite groups.
