SocGen - Hong Kong - FO - Any insight?

Hey Guys!

Just want to gain some insights of SocGen HK IB division in HK. How is their deal flow/comps/exits? How is their graduate program in HK? My research tells me that SocGen is pretty strong in HK for S&T, but not for banking. Thanks a lot!

They're able to get away with low pay because of:

  • The French school system
  • VIE (International Internship Programs)

In the French school system, it is encouraged or required for masters students to do a 6-12 month internship before or during their masters. This means banks like Soc Gen can hire these individuals for very cheap, and work them to death.

VIE programs are international internship programs where a firm can keep you as an intern forever (i've known people who were interns under this program for 3-4 years), and they also pay you garbage.

In regards to Soc Gen, the only division in IB that's doing well is MM Leveraged Finance in NYC. All other groups are just chilling, and making a decent living while working cushy hours in IB. At least that was the case a few years ago, not sure if things have changed since.
