Sophomore BB internships

Monkeys, I'm a sophomore non-target at a top school on the west coast (Cal/UCLA), and am trying to break into BB IB in NY. During my freshman year i interned at an small investment bank and am interning at another bank in the fall. I know some of the BB Sophomore programs aren't exclusive to diversity candidates and was interested in Citi in particular. How should I go about maximizing my chances (reach out to recruiters, analysts/associates, or is it pretty hopeless?)

Yeah you can try networking since your at a target it will help. It's better to reach out early. I have had interviews at banks as a sophomore at a non-target because I took the liberty to network. Start now but realize spots are very competitive and juniors usually take precedence in terms of getting the offer. anything is possible

and for the menial internships quantify your work and show how you added value....for example your copious notes benefited fund managers by increasing client retention by 25%. Thats just some bs example but you get the idea....show value added

Agree with what's said. Take the initiative and start laying the groundwork now for a BB internship. I'll be doing one in a few weeks as a sophomore and it was in pushing and meeting the right people at the right time. Truly. You've a great background and the only thing separating you and many other qualified applicants who apply for the sophomore programs will be drive and enthusiasm, so start making a list of alumni to reach out to and a list of BB soph. programs who've heard of and know of.

Agreed. The advantage you have at a target is a strong alumni base. Although Finance majors at other schools are gonna be breathing down your back heavily, so there's competition.

Alright thanks guys. I'm going to start sending out emails tomorrow. I'm planning on having a list of at least 150 people I can talk with by the recruiting season coming up this year.
