Sophomore Internship Advice, Non-Ivy

I am a sophomore at a non-Ivy top 5 finance school. I am trying to find internships for summer 18'. I would like to get some experience in the financial world in general, so I can't be picky. If I were to be picky I would want to intern as an analyst in GS Real Estate PIA.

I've grown up shadowing a family member who works in investment real estate. I really like this and can speak knowledgeably about Real Estate. Also, I spent my freshman year undecided in major taking the maths and sciences required to major in chemical engineering but then decided on Chem and Finance. As a result, I have been majorly out of the recruiting loop and will just now be taking Fin. Accounting and Info. Systems this fall.

Can anyone recommend avenues to landing a sophomore internship in my current state? Would I have a shot at a top-tier internship such as this?

Pros:

  • I have a 4.0
  • I lead my universities division of a student venture fund
  • I'm taking a senior-level mathematics class on interest and bond theory this fall
  • Working on a machine learning real estate AP (is this too tangential to merit resume placement?)
  • Was on school's investment team (wasn't allowed to compete in compete b/c not in business at the time.)

Cons:

  • 31 ACT (so much for a measure of academic aptitude HA)
  • Not counting bond theory, I'll only have 2 business courses under my belt by end of fall
  • Not in my school's honor program (which means less access to recruiting and OCR)
  • Coursework is almost entirely Science

There are plenty of options available you just have to be proactive and utilize your connections. Don't put your ACT on your resume if you think its bad and no one is going to dig into the specific classes you took either just look at your major
