Sourcing deals, what is it and how bad is it?

Hello, I recently landed an interview with a more regional investment bank in SF (I am a hopeful lateral hire with a little more than a years experience out of school). The recruiter mentioned that analysts at this specific bank own the entire process of the deal, including the sourcing which I have heard some people say is the absolute worst thing to be doing. Curious if anyone who may have worked at a smaller shop has had any experience sourcing in an analyst role and can shed some light on it. What does it entail and should I not take the job if it includes a lot of sourcing? Thanks.

If you replace “sourcing” with “spending all your time creating pitch materials to try to win deals because we are a small bank” this job description would make more sense to me.
