Standing in an interview
Currently under going 2027 IB SA recruiting. Throughout the number of interviews I have had so far, I have been standing up using a raised desk. Overall, my interviewers have found it unique.
Is it wrong to stand in an interview? I feel like I can be way more expressive and my tone of voice is a lot more enthusiastic. Has anyone else done this?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, standing during an interview is indeed unconventional, but it’s not inherently wrong. It seems to have worked in your favor so far, as it has sparked positive and unique conversations with your interviewers. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind:
Adaptability is Key: While standing might make you feel more expressive and enthusiastic, it’s important to gauge the setting and the interviewer’s comfort level. If the interviewer seems taken aback or uncomfortable, it might be better to sit down to align with traditional expectations.
Confidence vs. Overconfidence: Standing can project confidence, but it’s crucial not to come across as overly assertive or trying too hard to stand out. Balance is essential.
Body Language: Standing allows for more expressive gestures, but ensure your body language remains professional and controlled. Avoid excessive movements that could be distracting.
Cultural Norms: In some professional settings, standing might be perceived as unusual or even inappropriate. Research the company culture beforehand to determine if this approach aligns with their norms.
Be Prepared to Explain: If you choose to stand, be ready to explain your reasoning in a way that highlights your thoughtfulness and professionalism. For example, you could mention how it helps you stay engaged and project energy during the conversation.
Ultimately, if standing helps you perform better and leaves a positive impression, it can be a unique differentiator. Just ensure it doesn’t overshadow the substance of your responses or make the interviewer uncomfortable.

Sounds like you’re making a good impression/standing out.
Not sure why a bank would go with someone who sat vs stood.
Pun intended I hope
