Stock Pitch in IB SA Interview?
Has anyone been asked to do a stock pitch in an SA interview at any bank? Haven't seen this question in too many of the guides but I've read it can come up. Should I spend time preparing one or is that pointless?
Yes, prepare one - I've had a few friends get grilled on stock pitches in superdays. I personally had a BB r1 where they asked me about a pitch I did for my school investment club
My experience was probably a little different than most. I had an ECM interviewer for a MM SD, and he asked me to pitch a stock as a follow on to a question about industries I'm interested in. He did not care at all about the financials or the nitty gritty so I gave him a very basic overview of an early-stage biotech company that could take advantage of the LOE wave in coming years and get acquired. Since I got the offer, I think that the thesis was interesting enough that the details wasn't as important.
Yes, even at the non-sweaty places this was a part of the process. Although it felt more like a pulse check of market knowledge and return drivers than anything too rigorous.
