Summarizing unfamiliar text within a short time frame

I’m currently reading and revising a long text given to me my boss which contains a lot of legal information sided with financial information (I can’t really get into specifics). I’m expected to understand the full text and re-iterate the most important parts to him in my own words (practically just dumbing down the text as we would be presenting it to a client). However, it is extremely advanced information, and like mentioned, very law based (very boring) and a topic I’m not as familiar with.

Does anyone have any tips that would help with summarizing, understanding and explaining information within a topic you don’t know anything about, with a short time frame in mind? Any tips to approach this or methods that have worked for others? Cheers
