Summer 2025 Sophomore Internships

I am currently a rising Sophomore at a non-target and I have an internship at an M&A firm for this summer, which lets me do deal sourcing and valuation. I am also currently learning my technicals and how to use excel with online courses.

I've noticed a few places like BofA and MS had Sophomore specific internships for 2025. I've applied for the BofA one, but missed the MS deadline unfortunately.

Does anyone know of any other opportunities in IB or related field for summer 2025 that is open for people graduating in 2027. I know that 2026 opportunities will start opening up later this year and earlier next year for junior year internships, but I am worried about what I can get next summer.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and suggestions for securing internships for Summer 2025 as a rising sophomore:

  1. Boutique and Regional Banks:

    • Smaller boutique banks often have less structured recruiting processes and may still have openings. These firms can provide valuable experience and are often more flexible with their requirements.
  2. Networking:

    • Leverage your network, including alumni from your school, LinkedIn connections, and any professional contacts you have made. Networking can sometimes open doors to opportunities that are not widely advertised.
  3. Off-Cycle Internships:

    • Consider looking for off-cycle internships, which can occur outside the traditional summer period. These can provide additional experience and may lead to full-time offers.
  4. Related Fields:

    • Explore internships in related fields such as private equity, asset management, or corporate finance. These roles can provide relevant experience and make you a stronger candidate for future IB internships.
  5. Online Job Boards and Forums:

    • Regularly check job boards and forums like Wall Street Oasis for new postings and discussions about available opportunities. Sometimes, users share information about openings that are not widely known.
  6. University Career Services:

    • Utilize your university's career services. They often have exclusive listings and can provide guidance on where to apply.
  7. Technical Skills:

    • Continue to build your technical skills through online courses and certifications. Proficiency in Excel, financial modeling, and valuation techniques will make you a more attractive candidate.

By following these steps, you can increase your chances of securing a valuable internship for Summer 2025. Good luck!

Unless you're diversity it will be hard to place sophomore summer at BB banks. Try to network at smaller firms in your area or around wherever you want to be for the summer. Tbh it's better to just prep for junior summer for the most part, tons of kids get junior summer offers before/without a sophomore summer gig.

I go to a non-target school, and my school essentially doesn't have an alumni network. Do you know how I would get around this for networking for the Junior summer offers once the SA 2026 applications open up for BB and EBs?
