After a super day, if HR doesn't provide a timeline on when you will hear back, how long is a reasonable time to wait before emailing HR or contacts at firm for an update? Is 1 week after super day appropriate?

Typically the firm will let you know that you got it very quickly (within a couple of days). If you're waiting for a while, it may be worth politely reaching out to HR.

Personally I would wait 1 week at the minimum and would probably reach out closer to the 2 week mark. Some groups move fast, while others move slow or you could be on waitlist. Nothing you can do so wouldn't sweat it. If 2 weeks go by and nothing then I would touch base with HR for an update

That sounds like a good idea. I think college kids tend to overthink these things. Could be 100 reasons why you haven't heard back yet other than you didn't get the gig. A polite email to HR early next week asking if there's any update will do
Don't mean to be Debbie downer but if you don't hear back within a business day after a super day you didn't get it. At the very best you're on the wait list and the firm may reach out if their top candidate turns them down.
Reach out in a week or so and ask for an update on status in the event you are on the wait list though. HR may respond with some BS answer or just ignore you. I find a best practice after a super day is 1) decompress 2) start applying for other roles and networking with other people because until you have an offer letter in hand you effectively didn't get it.
good thoughts, thanks! hoping to be on waitlist at least. really small firm (single digit SA class) so maybe they do things differently but we'll see soon enough
