Switching Groups at Associate Level

Anyone have experience switching groups within a bank at the associate level? Ideally between product groups (i.e. DCM to M&A or ECM). Currently somewhere between mid to top-ranked associate 2.

Nothing really wrong with my group, but I want a change of pace and to build my toolkit across multiple products while I'm still relatively young. Appreciate any advice on how to approach the subject, or if this is a stupid idea. FWIW, I think I've got a relatively clear path to MD as long as I can hold out since there is no one currently directly ahead of me in hierarchy aside from my MD (who will likely retire in the next few years).
