Targeting MM for recruiting?

I go to a second tier target school (cornell/Ross/Haas) and I don't have that much experience on my resume and heard that recruiting is going to be starting in 2 weeks or so. Is it reasonable to only target MM banks and maybe a few BB banks in recruiting? Or will that go south for me?

Is the MM recruiting process easier than the BB recruiting process? Have a lot of questions/ would like advice for how to go about the recruiting process

Would recommend following an approach like this:

High Priority Recruiting:

  • Banks that your school places well at consistently
  • Banks where you have connections/people who can help push your resume through
  • Banks that have a niche vertical that you have a genuine interest in

Medium Priority Recruiting:

  • Every other bank you have an interest in

You will not be penalized for applying somewhere, I always recommend casting a wide net and speak with as many people in the industry as you can. The more people you talk to, the better understanding you will have of the industry & the better odds you have of making it into the interview process. Don't know your stats but if you apply to a wide range of banks, recruit hard and have a decent GPA, the odds are in your favor that you can at least get interviews some places. Focus on meeting as many people as you can at the banks where you have the best chance of getting an interview (see "high priority recruiting" from above) and your odds get even better. Hope this helps.
