TD Securities New York
Hi All, hope everyone is keeping safe. I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with TD Securities in New York? They seem to be a growing franchise, especially in the Chemicals and P&U space. The culture seems good, along with the compensation. It honestly seems like like a better place than RBC (culture, hours, comp). I have also head the deal flow is pretty good too. Any insight would be much appreciated!
Hi Analyst 2 in IB - Gen, any of these discussions helpful:
More suggestions...
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
bump. Would be great if anyone could provide insight into comp and bonus
I hear that base was bumped to 110, cant speak too much on bonus
Offensive to RBC in the US.
TD has minimal US deal flow and pays below street, certainly less than RBC
Really? The MD for Chemicals, Power and Energy was a former head at GS.
No he was not a head at GS. Also - power, energy, and chemicals are incredibly broad. There’s no way he’s respected in all 3 industries (nobody is)
looks like a utility MD that wasn’t any good at GS (TD is a huge step down)
This. I don’t work at RBC but their comp looked good this year, for associates at least. I really don’t see TD much and I highly doubt their comp is better than RBC.
lol @ better than RBC - if your measure is comp / hours / culture as being better than no one would've ever gone to GS pre 2021.
Do you mind expanding on this? Would be curious to know your thoughts on TD, heard the culture and comp is great and that they’ve been putting serious effort into attracting senior talent vs RBC which had multiple high profile senior exits.
Nothing wrong with TD. The reason they have better hours, culture, and comp (though don't think it's materially different than RBC which now pays out more than most bulges and I hear TD is the same) is because they need to have these things to attract people from going to RBC or similar. RBC was in the same position several years ago when it was trying to build out its franchise. RBC lost a lot of people in Tech specifically, which is not its best franchise, but TDs senior hires are much newer and not likely to jump ship yet - that happens later when they have more tenure and their guarantees have wound off. I guess my point is that RBC similarly pays higher and has better culture than somewhere like JPM but that doesn't make it 'better', it may make it better for someone who wants to maximize $ / hour worked but not for analysts looking to jump to Warburg.
can talk about chem and p&u there - dealflow is decent and was expected to pickup after landing a few major ones in 2020 and then last year but its been stagnant
pay this year was actually high. so was RBCs tho.
team culture is probably among the best you will find on wall st.
its a lean team so unless youre a dunce, job stability is very good. but as an analyst id take better options.
Fair, can you lateral to a different bank from that team? How is DIG perceived and BMO PU&I with the new MD?
in this market you can lateral anywhere haha.
ive seen non IB folks lateral into top tier IB so any IB experience would mean you have a chance
I have a buddy at TD in NYC and he said the culture is great.
