There are a ton of smaller tech boutiques that do good deals. Just make sure to select one that has a great reputation in their niche and hopefully it aligns with your interests. I worked for a 15 person boutique with a specialty in telecom managed services. We didn’t even have to do bake-offs or really pitch at all for business. All the deals were just drop shipped to our door as we were a go-to for that. We also did a much broader spectrum of tech deals, but the bread and butter definitely paid the bills. Comp and hours were great. I was there Assoc - Sr VP, which was the highest title before becoming a partner, which I was offered. Chose to start a company instead of buying in, which is often a requirement for partners. They now have MDs as well. Comp for analysts was a bit below street in a tier 2 city. Assoc and above was above market. Most analysts went career track and stay because it’s honestly a really good culture.
