Thank you email before the interview?

Got a call early this week telling me I landed an interview. Should I send an email just thanking the interviewing for the chance or will it look like I'm sucking up and desperate?

Thank You Note Before Interview

The answer is short and simple. No. You should not send email them a thank you note beforehand. It will come off as undue flattery, desperation, or social inept. Below are some thoughts from Wall Street Oasis community.

It depends, I would send an thank you note if the HR people did any sort of fiddiling with the interview roster to get you in. If this is just a normal interview though, dont worry about it.

It's a smaller shop and I got a call from someone who I didn't really get to build a strong rapport with. It was ~30 seconds and he just asked me when I was free for an interview.

I was hoping it would just help me re-affirm my stance and eagerness to join the firm.

I was refering to something like a friend got you an interview, with out him you would have had no chance kind of situation. In that situation it would be civil to send the person that hooked you up a thank you note before you interviewed. In your situation dont worry about it.

Think of it like dating - do you call and thank someone for a date before you get there?

"Hi, I've had so much fund driving over to your place, can we do this again some time?"

Sterling ArcherI hope this is subtle trolling at it's finest, but if it's not - don't do it. If you send a pre-interview thank you note, then all throughout the interviewer the guy is going to be thinking "this douchebag thanked me before the interview. ding."

That is if they don't cancel it first.

Wasn't trolling, legitimately confused. But thanks for all the input, I'll hold off on the thank you haha.
