Thoughts about MacQuarie IBD
Does anyone have info on MacQuarie investment banking? I heard they’re a leading infra group but has anyone had experience working there? What are exit opps like?
I heard they have a strong presence in the APAC region, particularly in Australia

Their infra team in nyc office is apparently known to be the best infra shop in the city, but incredibly sweaty. They run stupid lean and their recruitment process has a pretty tough IQ test involved for whatever reason. You have to take the test again under supervision at the end of the internship in office apparently to lock in the return.

every macquarie group has an IQ test. its part of the application, i cant recall ever having heard of someone taking one on the desk. infra/energy advisory is not the sweatiest, the models are just the most annoying. i can speak for NYC but the test under supervision to get the return is not true. source I was a MacCap intern and know kids who worked there this summer.
For anyone looking for more detail, the test provider is Korn Ferry. I'm someone that enjoys psychs and is pretty good at them - but this one was very challenging.

Most junior year programs have IQ tests. I’ve heard they weed out 70% of people from iq tests alone so probably 115+ iq is needed. Although the tests are pretty stupid imo - a 5 minute iq test does not say much about a persons intelligence
That’s supposed to be good then. They should require this for FT hiring too but how are the IQ tests supposed to measure intelligence over the course of 5 minutes? If anything I would’ve thought these would’ve been at least half an hour or an hour long

Most applications in EMEA have the online aptitude tests. Not really an IQ test because you can easily practise and improve your score especially when you know what the test providers are for each bank
exit opps from infra/energy advisory are places like i2 IFM and other good-top infra shops. from the rest of the groups principal finance gets great exits while the rest of the groups not great but MM/LMM PE and biz dev is common
Yeah they’re good in most groups
Hours can be long like many places
Their groups are pretty niche (eg software group focuses on EdTech) but good at what they do. Known for infrastructure obviously (been on some pretty big mandates) and also casinos.
Top infra fund exits, respectable but not amazing normal exits

Very good gaming group. Group head sits in LA. Long hours typically but good comp.
My firm co-advised on a sellside with them as an intern and i just remember thinking what the fuck when I opened their model. Very detailed to say the least
They just laid off well over 80 people and trying to rehire the best ones they fired…
^all of this 2 months before bonuses (yea i doubt the rehired folks will get paid their bonuses)
