Transition to IB: is my goal pragmatic? (please help!)
I currently work in data science for a Scandinavian bank (has good reputation in Nordics but is a no name bank for US).
I'm very eager to pivot towards IB in US/UK via the MBA route(say NYU/Cornell/Ross etc). Considering the sharp turn in career path, do you think its a realistic goal to have?
Summarizing my background:
Age: 26
Work ex: 5 years of strong experience in data analytics within retail banking, wealth management (my role is a mix of IT+business. Meaning, I'm not someone who just codes but is also involved in internal consulting, publishing research reports & business insights)
education: engineering undergrad, cleared CFA level 2
Reason for switch: I feel tech careers hit a dead end or tend to get very boring after a few years. Also I frankly find IB/ Investment management to be a lot more exciting
Post MBA: Plan A is IB. If that doesnt work out, hoping for consulting in MBB or big 4
Also, would you recommend that I switch to middle office roles within WM/S&T in a BB bank, gain 1 year of experience and then apply for Bschool?
Note that I'm an Indian citizen-engineer-male (an overrepresented candidate pool, in case that matters)
