UBS HV Sales and Trading Off Cycle

Hey everyone, I’ve applied to the off-cycle Sales and Trading internship at UBS, and yesterday they sent me an email asking for a video interview. I don’t know what they might ask me, and to be honest I don’t want to go in there entirely blind. What do questions do you think might come up?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and potential questions you might encounter during your UBS Sales and Trading off-cycle video interview:

Common Questions:

  1. Behavioral Questions:

    • Why UBS?
      • Example Answer: "I first became interested in UBS when attending an informational session at XYZ school. There I spoke with an alumni about the Wealth Management Group and the Graduate Talent Rotational Program (GTP). After expressing an interest in the rotational nature of the GTP, she put me in touch with a few other alumni in the group who, after connecting, invited me to visit the NYC office. Overall, I really connected with the collegial nature of the firm and UBS' focus on the client which has led me to really want to be a part of this team."
    • Why Sales and Trading?
    • Describe a situation where you had to collaborate with a difficult colleague.
    • Give an example of how you've worked on a team.
  2. Situational Questions:

    • Describe a time when you had to make a quick decision under pressure.
    • How would you handle a situation where a client is unhappy with a trade?

Preparation Tips:

  • Research the Firm:
    • Understand UBS's values, principles, and recent news. Tailor your answers to reflect how your values align with theirs.
  • Practice Common Frameworks:
    • Create a list of the 40-50 most common behavioral questions and consolidate them into 5-10 question "frameworks." This will help you prepare anecdotes for various scenarios, such as a time you failed, a time you succeeded, and a time you worked in a team.
