Undergraduate “W” Transcript

Hello. I am a junior undergraduate student at one of the top public business schools in the country. I aspire to be competitive for the best entry analyst roles in big cities, and MBA programs in the future.

I am asking for advice about possibly withdrawing from an upper level economics course. It is not required for my business degree. I know nothing about how negatively it impacts my aspirations and chances to still break in, having a transcript showing I withdrew, a “W”.

If anyone has any feedback, please help.

Any and all opinions, no matter how informed. Thank you.

Pretty sure that was you on r/financial careers haha

Regardless, I don’t think that having a W on your transcript is a big deal. I had a couple on mine and still was able to get an internship from a competitive company.

Don’t sweat it, it’ll definitely be worse to do poorly in the class and negatively impact your GPA. Especially if it’s not a required class I doubt anyone cares.

Especially for MBA programs I’m pretty sure the only thing that matters at that point is GMATs and work experience but don’t quote me on that.

Doesn't matter - it's not like you send your transcript with your application. Maybe they ask for it once you already have the job but as long as the GPA matches what you put you're good. For MBA maybe they care but if it is only like 1 amongst all your semesters I doubt it is a factor. If you have like 5 that could be an issue

I had one from a biology class that I just couldn't crack and never was an issue. In fact I'd argue it is far better to have a W then a C or something that tanks your GPA
