Unique Situation - Background Check
Had a summer internship this year, which canceled the in-person portion. Got paid upfront and was given courses to participate in. Admitted this in interviews that I wasn't staffed on anything. How will a background check deal with this?
I'd rather avoid a situation in which I have to explain to HR all of this/end up losing the offer as the educational part was not very impressive. But I didn't really lie about it, just made it sound better.
If you had an offer letter for an internship, they hired you and you were "employed". They even paid you.
I would just mention on the resume that you had that internship and "elaborate" in phone interviews going forward. 2020 was such a dud, not sure if anyone would blame you for the missed portions.
what makes it unique is that they didn't call the sessions an internship and considered that the internship didn't happen. I believe that since I participated in sessions and got some $, it's legit enough considering 2020. Thank you for the input.
how was is called then? what was titled in the contract? there must be something in there?
They just gave us money up front as a sort of severance and made the sessions optional, which totaled to about 10 hrs/ a week over 4 weeks..
so your contract does not have a job title or purpose of employment?
no, we got money up front and optional things to do as a reparation for not having a true in person experience. I am just worried that it won't pop up in a Hireright or another bc check. I signed a w2.
