URGENT HELP REQUIRED: Screwed Up My Freshman GPA (really badly); How Hard Would It Be to Land a Sophomore Internship

Hi, I'm a Freshman going into my Sophomore year at McGill and just declared my major, which is Econ. Long story short, I screwed up my GPA really badly in my Freshman year (it's a 2.5) because I was unable to cope with the adversities of being a college student. However, I'm older and wiser now and capable of handling academics; am sure will get good grades from now on. Since I'll start applying for summer internships for 2018 in the Fall, I just wanted to know how much I've hurt my chances and what I can do to rectify my fuck up and how to cope with it. Thank you, all help would be appreciated. I'm losing my mind over this, would really appreciate a reply.
