Used Knopman for Series 79 and it didn't work

Hi Guys,

Took S79 yesterday using Knopman, I was scored high 80s in the last 3 Knopman tests and fell short by about 18 questions on the real test. I am thinking of using STC practice questions now and bare in mind I barely had any Knopman questions on the test. I already have S7 and S63 registrations, S79 is the last one I need.

Do you guys think using STC is better next time?

Thanks-

First off, sorry to hear that. Was there a particular section you scored poorly on? I felt Knopman was harder than the real test; I had been scoring in the low-mid 70's on Knopman and crushed the real exam in the high 90s. Could have gone the other way, you never know with tests.

What was your practice routine for the questions? The approach that worked for me was to read the entire prep book through and take notes, take the practice exams, then write down all of my missed questions and re-read the parts I had missed. The large question bank online was also helpful toward the end, I just kept focusing in on all the questions I had missed until I had most of them memorized.

I'm also curious on how people used knopman to study. I am reading the book, and then after reading about 150 pages, I stop and do practice problems with the online question bank for those sections. After the book, I plan on watching the online videos, and then taking the practice tests. Hopefully after that I am good to go.

For the 79, I studied using the STC guide and felt that the materials were pretty thorough. It is important to note that I took both STC and Knopman practice tests to cover as may potential questions/ topics as possible. One thing I would warn against (based on your past test taking experiences I do not think this was your issue but want to put it out there for anyone else reading this) is do not just memorize the answers to the questions that are provided in one set of materials.

After taking a few STC practice exams, I realized that I had simply memorized some of the correct answers to questions that were repetitive in the online chapter tests and I did not actually know some of the content. This is why I tried my best to simulate the conditions of the actual test by using the paper version of the Knopman practice exams after having studied using the STC materials.

Best of luck next time around!

Definitely this. A lot of my colleagues approached this test with the attitude that getting the minimum score was "winning" because you wouldn't have to study as much, and they looked to Knopman/STC for answer handouts. I took the approach that most of the test is actually pretty basic and relevant knowledge to being a banker, so even if some details are pretty wonky and I would have to look them up anyway if I were doing this stuff in real life, now I know enough to say that, "Hey, I think I remember there was a regulation about this, let me go look up the details." YMMV

So just wanted to make the update, I used STC questions, and powerpoint this time and passed. I didn't get any questions out of of the blue. The questions were easier than the STC questions. One thing I am surprised about is that I was expecting a score much higher than what I received when I finished the test, but when I finished it passed within 2-3 points of passing. I say it is surprising because I did not feel one single bit that I didn't know what I was doing, I was confident the whole time. But I guess, I passed nevertheless.

Another reason why probably scored in low 60s last time is because I believe i memorized the answers and did not understand the content from detail using the STC powerpoint like I should've.

One more thing, even if you think you've done great once you're finished, DO NOT TURN THE TEST IT. Check it, I caught 3-4 questions that were flat out wrong because i read them wrong. Had I turned it in w/o checking, I could've failed. So be careful.
