i'm surprised it's not all over business news yet

clearly, the WSJ is going to have to start visiting WSO if they want to get timely news...

still, something about this story doesn't smell right. probably not anywhere yet because nobody has "confirmed" it.

until we get a few more credible sources saying this is true I would still take it as a "strong rumor".

come on, you don't love Yahoo! Small business theme??!?!

I wonder if he actually left the firm, or if he's just no longer serving an active role (I only got to talk for a few seconds, so didn't really get any details)

Not sure why a fake firm would be set up, though it is certainly not a new firm and looks like someone copied his Moelis bio. The Forecheck Investments through which Woo invested in the Predator's is certainly legit though (http://www.tennessean.com/assets/pdf/DN112724713.PDF), and the purchase also seems like it stirred up some trouble with the NHL with regard to incomplete financial disclosure.

Everything on the page is verifiable except for the first paragraph, as they don't seem to have done any other investments.

Woo definitely quit. He hasn't been working here for a while even though the announcement was just made. I work at Moelis and know he was unhappy with the direction of the firm. Don't know what he's worth but he clearly doesn't need to work. All is not what you read or hear. People are very unhappy here. The three guys who run the firm are greedy and selfish. I think he had different expectations for the culture and vision of the firm. His new firm is just an investment vehicle, not a real firm.

Very interesting.

hmmm, although you may have been in the firm, i still may think he may have been fired...I've heard rumors and the senior guys are probably just passing off that explanation to lower-level employees (VPs & Associates). this guy is a hitter -- undoubtedly they would do everything in their power (read: bling bling) to keep him unless something crazy went down. "the direction of the firm" sounds like the typical cover-up line.
