Wells Fargo Preference Form
So although WF does not recruit at my target, we have a fairly strong presence there and I have networked through several alumni in IB who said they'd pass my resume along to HR. Yesterday I got what seemed like a pretty generic email from a guy in HR who told me to create an online searchable profile and apply by a certain date.
The email also included a link to a preference form survey where I was instructed to fill out the survey to let them know my group and location preference.
Is it common to received the preference form before even submitting an application? Am I looking to far into this or is it promising that I am on their radar and that this could possibly lead to a first-round?!
I did some searching on WSO about the Preference Form and got these results:
"I had a phone interview with WFC's FAP on October 4, 2011 and thought it went well. Later that evening I received the general "candidate preference and location" form, which we were told during the info session we would receive only if we were deemed to move forward in the interview process."
"Receiving the form after what I thought was a successful phone interview-went 15 min over allotted time-leads me to think that I made it to the next round--especially because during the info session prior to the phone interview we were told that, "If recommended to move onto the next round, candidates will receive a "general location and preference form."

Has anyone else already received the form for SA position? Is it usually more common to receive this after an official phone interview?
Thanks (:
You always indicate your group and location preference in your cover letter, or select it on the little drop down menu when you're applying online at just about every place. Not sure what you're asking.
The Wells Fargo App does not ask for cover letter and does not allow you to select position or location. They're recruiting process is very different, you just apply to the Wells Fargo Securities Summer Analyst program which includes both IB&CM and S&T (I have heard of interviews where you will have both IB and S&T on the call). You eventually get placed into one of these two tracks and then ultimately a group or desk, and you are allowed to express your interest in a certain track in the interview
The preference form lets you select or rank your interest IB/S&T/PF, groups in IB, desks in S&T, and locations. However i have never heard of someone receiving this form before submitting an application. Typically this occurs after at least a first round interview.
Reread your post. Yes, the form usually comes after you interview. You're reading way too much into this. You still need to get an actual interview.
Um maybe you should reread your post... if the form usually comes after you interview then how am I reading too much into this?
And yes, obviously I still need to get the actual interview. Nothing is guaranteed. But I'm curious as to if this means I'm on their radar for a possible first-round since HR emailed me and gave me the preference form
I'm pretty sure they use the form pre-interview to match you up with an interviewer. When I interviewed with WF I filled out my form at the pre-recruitment networking thing the night before.
Because they are interviewing you for the overall position of Summer Analyst (i.e. not straight into IB, S&T, etc.) it helps give them an idea of what questions to ask you and stuff like that. I had IB as my preference, and my first round was 2 on 1, one of the guys was from S&T.
Not really answering your question I guess but I wouldn't read too much into it. I'd say there's a decent chance you'll get a first round but there's no real point in getting super excited about it. FWIW, they only did one round of interviews last year (no superday).
