What are my options going forward?
I'm interning this summer at a regional bank with right at $1.5 Billion in assets. I got the internship because I'm in my school's commercial banking program and I only applied for the placements with smaller banks. I did that because my plans have really been to start as a credit analyst in the banks back home, which are just a big larger...
Now that I've been in the environment and seeing the credit dept. work, I'm starting to change my mind about these plans. The 'spreads' can be for loans less than $1 Million and I'm staring at someone's tax returns, which I hate. Luckily, I spent a majority of my time on 2 different loans, both over $7 Million and I get to do actual financial analysis and research with the full-time guys. To get to my questions, what's it like doing credit analysis for BofA, Wells and so on?
Also, the past week I rotated over to the CIO, the CFO and their 3 or 4 analysts that strictly work on potential acquisitions of banks, less than $110 Million, and the bank's investment portfolio. Oddly enough, for a bank with $1 Billion in Assets, almost $400 million is in investments...and I'm finding the general work much more intriguing. For the first time, I'm starting to think investment banking might be a better fit? Any insight would help, I know I could get interviews for any commercial bank in Texas and perhaps for some of the boutiques and mid-markets too, if I start to network soon. I go to a school heavily recruited for the Houston and Dallas areas and I have a 3.8 GPA. Thanks to anyone who even attempted to read this. Lol
