What are the glamarous parts of high finance?
Is the culture anything like it was in the pre-crisis days? Do bankers still go out on drug-fuelled nights till 5am, go to strip clubs, eat at the very best restaurants etc, as described in Turney Duffs "The Buyside" or has political correctness ruined all the fun?
Some people do those things in their own time but not at company sponsored events. The most “glamorous” parts would probably be dinner after a deal is closed - that’s a splurgefest. But other than that the job is 99% non-glamorous menial work.

That darned political correctness ruining all the fun like not letting bankers go to the nicest restaurants! Don’t worry about what goes on in banking or on the buyside, because you’ll never be a part of it.

The glamorous part is when you get to leave before 9pm. You can take all that other pre-crisis crap you referenced and give me 8pm nights to chill at home by myself now and then and I'll make that trade every time.
Dude you think a strip club is fun until you see the men that go to strip clubs and how all the girls try to hustle you out of your cash for dances you already paid for, which btw are over priced. A strip club is filled with sad lonely men and the girls are only talking to them to siphon all the cash out of them. The MDs and VPs that go to strip clubs also don’t have the happiest personal lives either.
And no the job was never glamorous. It was just over romanticized by the movies. It sucked and always sucked. It was always a boring job.
I'll never understand the obsession with strip clubs. A few of my friends go from time to time, I just have never had the urge to say I am going to go spend money on this. Even drunk on bourbon street with friends / friends gf's and my own gf wanting to go, just doesn't make sense to me.
Yeah dude. It’s honestly only something I’ll do when it’s a really late night and I have to be in a really good mood to blow my cash on over priced drinks and dances.
Right! I'm in my 30s and still have never been to a strip club and have no inclinations to ever go.

Bro you have yet to be cut down. By the time you get to Wednesday, after having worked a combined 45-50 hours you'll realize there is no glamour. The only glamour you get is on bonus day, and then you realize your bonus isn't fucking big enough and you're already thinking about next year.
The fact you have to ask means it isn’t like that anymore. Maybe for some but not for all you can credit the financial crisis for making people more humble.
