what is an undergraduate business school?
Hi
I'm currently attending one of the top universities in my country. This forum is obviously US-centric and so much of the discussion is based on north american recruiting timelines / school systems / pipelines.
Would someone be able to clarify the difference between a university with an undergraduate business program and one without? A clear example would be a school such as penn (wharton) vs the rest of the ivies. How is being at wharton and studying economics different from being at, say harvard or columbia, and majoring in economics? Is there more guidance on career counselling and a push for case studies at wharton?
Wharton's undergraduate economics is just economics by name. People who go there get a B.S. in Economics with a Concentration in Finance (for example). I have no clue why they call it a B.S. in Economics, as its a standard business degree. To be clear, you can go to Wharton and concentrate in Business Economics, which is basically applied economics to business/political situations. Business schools teach subjects like finance, accounting, management, actuary, marketing, etc.
Going to another ivy and studying economics would be your traditional economics degree. In fact, if you study at UPenn's Arts & Sciences school, a B.A. in Economics would be a traditional economics degree.
Great answer, sums it up perfectly. Would also note that you can major in business at Cornell.
so would students at harvard majoring in economics be required to take certain accounting/finance/management classes in their freshman/sophmore year as part of their degree?
