What is the Correlation (if any) Between a Business Development position and Investment Banking Analyst position?
Hey, all.
I am expecting an offer from a boutique investment bank where my role would focus on business development. The boutique specializes in Business Services and Technology M&A.
My first question is: What would my title be? What would I say I am on LinkedIn?
Second question: What's the difference between the two roles?
Third and final question: How could I leverage this internship when applying for fulltime IB analyst roles?
Thanks.
If you'd do your research during the interview process, THAT'D BE GREAT!
Your title would be business development intern. The difference between bus dev and investment banking is one is business development and the other is investment banking. You should probably wake the fuck up before you send resumes for any full time jobs.
How to move from business development role (non financial industry) to I-bank/PE? Need interview help!!! (Originally Posted: 01/21/2009)
Hey,
Im in the midst of pursuing a career change from doing valuation/analytical work at a typical energy company to moving into ibanking and/or pe work.
I've got 3 yrs experience mostly in small scale project and commercial development and am working on Level 2 of CFA. Ive got an interview with an investment firm specializing in the PIPE markets and need to know i) what and where I can learn about the p.e./pipe business and ii) what to expect. Please help!!
Joe the Plumber would be able to tell you more about this. Hahahaha!!!
OK just kidding. Don't stress about PIPEs. They are simply Public Investments in Private Equity. Hahahahaha!! Ok, I mean they are "Private Investments in Public Equity". Read the book by Feldman et al.

I have a couple interviews coming up one with a no name boutique IB vs Lowes Business development. Which would you choose?
I'd wait until I got my offers to start choosing between them.
That said, it's always always all about deal flow. If the boutique does a lot of deals (unlikely) and all you'll do at Lowe's is make ridiculous recommendations that never get acted upon, choose the boutique. If all the boutique does is pitch, and Lowes is making 5 and 6 acquisitions and divestitures each year, then go with Lowes.
