Yes, banks often officially have revenue per senior expectations. In practice, senior comp is not based on whether or not that is met or not, and varies wildly according to various factors. Can also depend on geography, group, seniority, coverage or product, the strength of the bank, previous year's figures, how much activity your sub-sector had for the year, and relative league table rankings within the sub-sector.  Lastly, if you have guaranteed bonuses or not because if you do then you know your exact paycheck. I might've missed some factors, but think this is fairly comprehensive. 

 

Not an excuse, just how reality works, though I get that nuance can be tough to grasp sometimes. Senior comp has never been a simple ‘hit this revenue number or else’ equation. If it were, a lot of MDs would be making significantly less or more than they do at the large BB banks. 

I could give you a revenue target if it makes you feel better, but that number alone doesn’t actually tell you how senior bankers are evaluated. It’s a holistic process. But sure, let’s pretend it’s as simple as a singular number if that’s part of the narrative you’re going for.
