What is your honest opinion of people aspiring to work/ are current working in investment banking?
I am a MSc student who wants to work in the IBD industry upon graduation, and this summer is my first time applying for IBD summer internships. I am feeling a little despair and jaded by my current situation. I tried to reach out to analysts/associates who are currently working in the companies I am applying for to ask for a short call, and my response rate is less than 10%. Yes, I am a minority and a female. My schoolmates are very competitive, because they are all applying for the same positions as me. Hardly anyone is sharing any valuable information even though everyone says hi to each other around the campus. It seems like students who are aiming for IBD are willing to stab people in the back to get ahead. This makes me wonder how my life would be like if I enter this industry. My experience has not been a pleasant one so far and I don't know if I am down on luck this year or is everyone experiencing the same thing as me? Let me know how your experience in summer IBD recruitment has been so far. I will love to hear about your experiences!
