What to actually expect for SA at GS?

Incoming summer analyst at GS IBD (NY), curious how many hours will interns actually work per week/what do weekends look like in terms of working (is that a thing for interns) etc?

Curious about both classic side and financing side.

To clarify, I did not bump my own post. This commenter just happens to be another anon intern in IB- gen

felt the need to make this distinction because I've seen people bump their own posts 5x and disliked it, I'm not one to be a hypocrite

EDIT: Thank you for the monkey shit on a clear joke, you must know how to have fun in life...

Original poster here, I'd like to come clean -- I actually did bump my own post, please ignore my comment above. What I did was selfish and deceitful, I am sorry.

With coverage, hours vary depending on group. Some groups are big on FT. AFG has slightly lighter hours. Personally averaged around 85 hours per week, 15-16 hrs on a weekday and 6-8 hrs on Sunday. Went in office on Sundays (optional), and Saturdays are protected. Think this reflects the average experience but there were also guys who put up close to 100 hrs every week.

Thank you so much for the insight. How different are the hours between AFG and Classics? Also, could you explain further what you meant by Sundays were optional? Optional as in they said it was optional but you’re expected to come in or optional as legitimately optional? Thanks

Who can summarize the list of product groups in the financing & transaction sides?

Who can take 10s to use their monkey brain and google GS’s convenient summary of exactly that?

Apparently not you

I was a summer analyst in coverage. I worked 10-15 hours a day on weekdays and only worked on Sunday once or twice over the summer and it was for 6 hrs. Average week was 55-70 hours, toughest week was ~85 iirc. I honestly would have worked fewer hours if not getting OT pay/simply being super inefficient bc I was an intern lol
