Which banks give out rejections and which ghost you?
Talking about the post hirevue round- after TIs/MS team calls etc- heard MS accepts quickly, but for rejections, does MS send a rejection mail? Same with UBS, DB (I think they're ghosting me cause ACs are out and I ain't going anywhere).
It really comes down to the team/person, no banks have broad poliies here... my bank typically ghosts but my team's policy is to send short notes to any superday rejections
The ones that ghost- it's seriously so confusing.
Eh from the other side I agree they could be better about it but it's not that confusing if you know how the back end looks and how many hundreds of people are interviewed. They aren't going to go into workday and individually reject people after every round from thousands of applications - and similarly, no one has time to send hundreds of personalized emails. It's bad form to ghost but it's not like there is a quick and easy button on the application back end to send a nice rejection email with.
I totally agree for superdays you should get a formal rejection - hence why my group makes sure we do that. But it's a lot of effort to do for early rounds.
I think in most cases you're most likely on a waitlist. It's still fairly early (ish) in the recruitment cycle, and banks will hire mostly on a first-come-first-served type of basis. There'll be some cutoff at which you'll eventually receive a rejection letter, but banks like to keep a buffer of "maybes" in case some of the candidates they advanced turn out poor or go to another bank. From the bank's perspective, it's not good to have a policy of accept / reject, and then end up with a deficit of candidates if the bank rejected all the maybe - there's no downside to eithe party (apart maybe from a bit of closure) of keeping someone on a waitlist.
Hmm, this makes sense. I had a phone interview on 18/19th Sept. And got to know that AC invites for said bank were sent out either yesterday or last Friday. My interview wasn't the best, but given my background + experience, it still was decent. I got pretty quick turnarounds for the test, hirevue, and the phone interview, but now, it's dead silent. Even done 2 events with this bank, one uni visit, registered for one more (I live in another city, so I travelled back and forth a lot). Met so many interesting people. My first exposure to IBD UK, and I loved it- just seeing people so involved with what they do and be so consistent in their commitment to their role/sector/team was awesome. Felt pretty invested in this.
So, yeah, actually this bank was giving me a lot of motivation to sail through the recruitment process honestly. But, it's going to hit 3 weeks since my phone interview. I'd of course be disappointed if I don't get AC (mostly cause, I'm already so invested, I just want that experience. The phone interview was rough for me, but I'm glad I went through it, I learnt a lot, so I really hope I get to experience doing an AC with them).
I didn't know waitlisting was a thing with banks. Cause if my interviewer didn't like my answers, he would've said no up front. But, if it is, then, hopefully things work. Thanks for your insight.
I agree it sounds like you're on the waitlist. At big banks (smaller shops will be different but they probably don't follow a standardised process anyway) you won't (I doubt) get a personal email. I'd advise just sitting tight and hoping for the best but preparing for the worst (and I don't just mean emotionally - I just mean making sure the volume and breadth of your other applications are appropriate)
