Who to contact first?

So, I'm doing my research and finding little boutique IB banks in CT to intern at this summer to learn more about the industry and get my feet wet because as of right now I have no experience. However, I was wondering when cold emailing/ cold calling who should I contact first? The MD's or someone below them? Also if anyone has an tips of how to learn more about IB that would greatly be appreciated because I don't want to sound like a dumbass if I do land a phone call or an information interview. Thanks guys!
