Why consumer?

I am starting SA interviews and I really want to work in a consumer industry group. What is a good way to answer the "Why consumer" question in interviews? My current response is as follows, but I'm not sure if I should change it: "I want to work in consumer because you work on a wide variety of verticals and companies, and those verticals are really interesting to me. Also, consumer tends to be a group that has strong deal flow throughout the business cycle." What else should I add to this answer?

answer is far too general, as both sentences can apply to any industry. What exactly do you find interesting about consumer companies ("wide variety" doesn't seem very convincing")? You can build off something on the more personal side, like how you eat cornflakes for breakfast everyday, and add in the finance component.

Dude, this is a super low quality answer that shows you haven't really thought about why you want to work in Consumer & Retail. My advice would be to get rid of any preformed ideas you have about what group interests you, do some reading, talk to people, and then find a group you have actual some passion for. The answer to why that group should come easy to you at that point.
