Why Don’t Aspiring Rappers go Into Banking!?
All these rappers be like ’ya boy out here hustling errday for that bread!!!’
I was napping at lunch one fine afternoon after the 3rd all nighter of the week, and it just hit me - if they are hustling so hard and making next to nothing, why don’t they all become bankers and make 200k a year?!
I’m just curious as to what are people’s thoughts on this? Has this idea ever crossed your mind? Can we please start a group (potentially titled ‘Rapperz2Bankers’) to encourage current rappers to look into IB?
p.s please don’t MS me, obviously this is in part satire. but I’m also in part serious as to why kids these days look to ‘hustle’ in avenues with very limited upside? a lot of them can do great things and provide great lives for their families if they just placed their energy and enthusiasm into other areas.
not many people want to work 100+ hours a week in a job that requires focus, commitment, and patience. Sure, 200k sounds great, but people dream of making millions. why work 100+ hours each week for 200k, when you just need to make a few good songs and hopefully make that much and more.

Hard to get into banking with face tattoos...
rappers can talk bullsh*t and make millions at the age of 20, whereas bankers will only reach that level at 40 after they’ve started balding and have gone through their first divorce
the rappers will probably overdose before they hit 40
"Notorious B.I.G. said it best: Either you're slinging crack rock, or you got a wicked jump shot.' Nobody wants to work for it anymore. There's no honor in taking the after school job at Mickey D's. Honor's in the dollar, kid. So I went the white boy way of slinging crack rock. I became a stock broker." - Boiler Room
Lil Dicky - $ave Dat Money
Local rappers in music hub areas (ATL, LA, NY, Houston, etc) can actually make good money. Mid six figures isn’t a stretch. The real issue is the cash flow is inconsistent.
I don’t imagine they are exposed to the specific role models (the bankers the doctors and lawyers) from a very young age. they see the rappers with fast cars and girls they then want to be like that also. also it’s a problem with the education system, from getting the good grades to get into the good colleague, too many things stacked up against underfunded underprivileged. there’s enough kids on this forum with very good GPAs and struggling to get into banking so what chances does the kid from the hood have to get in?
I was going to say the other way around. If bankers worked 100 hours a week at music production, or most any other trade, you could become an expert and perhaps get compensated more. My pet theory is that we just have fundamentally hard working - but - unimaginative and risk averse people in this industry, which makes sense because it's just high end accounting + sales.
rapping is more profitable.
