Will future employers take the value of a virtual internship to be less than a traditional one?

Hi all,

Apologies if this delves into the realms of pointless speculation. Obviously given the current climate, I have concerns over whether I will convert my internship. When it comes to recruiting in the future, will the fact that it was a virtual one make it be looked down against traditional ones? Or is simply having a bank's name on your resume a good enough indication that you have a (certain) degree of competence (and the fact you actually got the offer in the first place says something too)?

Of course, a fair few other people will also have virtual experiences on their CV, so that will level the playing field.

Thanks a lot!

All firms have cancelled their internships or moved it virtual. So everyone else applying for the same position will have no internship or a virtual internship for this summer.

Other than MBB consulting firms, basically every company has a hiring quota. What matters then isn't necessarily how great your profile is, but how great your profile is relative to your competition.

You won't really look better or worse for your internship having been virtual. Everyone knows why that was the case, and everyone else applying will be in a similar or worse position in that way.

Not in this situation. I don't think any major SA 2020 programs will be in person so almost everyone will have a virtual internship on their resume. If you had a 2019 in-person internship it's helpful to be able to talk about some work experience.

Interns ->FT aren't usually hired for all the amazing experience they have from 2-3 months of work, but rather showing ability and that you can be trained.
