Winning deals as an MD

This might appear funny/too soon to think about as I am still an intern but I am wondering how one can prepare his ascension to MD position (well when one is MD its no different than a king so allow me to use that expression lol). Should one start to develop his network from his college days (networking with other majors?) so that when he reachs the MD position he has enough connections to win deals or should one specialise in one industry so that he gets to know pretty much everyone/every detail ?

I know between intern and MD positions one have to survive the analyst years, exiting, top performing etc but I believe in planning in (super)advance. Really curious about your thoughts

Thanks for your answer. I know how precious college time is and I assure u I am using it fully. I posted this topic not because I am stressed whatsoever about the future but as someone who is innately curious how rainmaker MDs make it to where they are. Thank's again for your response !
