Workout during busy weeks?

Hi WSO

was just wondering how it works out for you and at your firm?

Do you find the time to work out, go for a run or simply be active during those busy 90+ hour weeks? For me personally it works much better. After an hour of being active I feel fresh and I am concentrated. Was talking to some friends in the Industry. Some have to do it before work, some leave during the day when they are waiting for comments and not much is going on, some go after dinner and some are not allowed to leave.

Interested to hear how it works at your place...

I'm at my childhood home atm before going back to the city. We have a bench/squat and treadmill. I'm able to lift in between calls or while I work on a project. I do this on my remote days. During my city days I commute in about an hour both ways and am spent but I'll lift late at night if I know I'm working remote the next day otherwise a quick jog, push ups and sit ups in the city/office or before my dinner or before bed.

I think so. Some days not as much other days yes. Yesterday I got in 2 hours of solid lifting while working on Sales Force occasionally but had no calls for 2.5 hours. I try and plan out my exercises for the week so if I see I’m less busy a day I’ll go hard and then won’t have a rest day I’ll just rest by doing less and not being worried about effective exercise since I could have rested anyway. That way I can skip completely on my long ass days.

Agree with you OP. Exercise and investing in my health is essential for my success in this industry. Sitting at a desk all day will have you feeling lethargic and your health and especially your sleep quality will suffer.

Forget about working out during the 90+ hour weeks. Just focus on your diet and getting outside your office for a brief walk to get your mind right. Then maximize your weekend and get a solid 2 hour lift in on Saturday and Sunday.

You will have some slower weeks though and make sure you maximize those. I specifically moved right next to a gym near my office so that I can wake up at 6:30 and hit my first set 10 mins later. On these slower weeks all I expect from myself is to lift 4 days a week including the weekend. If things dont get too crazy and I can get in every day then I'll also run 3x a week in between my lifting days.

Being a successful banker and being fit share a big commonality for success: Just keep showing up.

I usually try to give it more than 40 minutes. Even if I have a packed schedule, I always leave time for a workout and a shower afterward. Since I can make my schedule, I don't see anything wrong with making it as I feel comfortable and convenient. I'm all for a healthy body and condition in general.
