Zions has a few Capital Markets groups based out of L.A., Texas, Charlotte and Salt Lake City. The investment banking arm is relatively brand new with a focus on lower MM execution. The Power/Project Finance (Energy) team is quite established in L.A. and they just launched a broader Sales/Trading/FX group based out of Charlotte.
Yes, these guys are just a bunch of commercial bankers pretending to be investment bankers. The senior guys don't have great resumes.

pretty much DCM. i talked to two people in that office, one had good things to say about the group, the other not so much
Pretty new to the middle market IB scene, however lots of deal flow from clients currently using the other branches of the bank. That was their selling point for me during interviews.
