Apollo, Moelis and GS internships, UK and abroad

Hey guys, so I'm starting at a target university in the UK this autumn and am new to WSO.

I'm interested in PE and PWM for the firms titled above. I've seen a lot regarding how hellish it is to work for Apollo in general let alone in their LA office and although it sounds like hell i do want the experience of doing a summer internship there to see if I could hack it.
Really just here to ask everyone if they could impart some career advice for someone who is just starting out and is looking to get ahead if possible.

Any resource recommendations that would prove useful in helping to prep for PE, PWM and IB interviews would be fantastic but also any further insight and advice about how to avoid basic mistakes and navigate the process as someone looking to potentially go outside of London for experience.

Thanks in advance.

I'm currently in PWM at a BB, and I would say the roles are pretty different compared to PE/IB roles. Would be good to read up more about each role so that you have a strong resume with a clear story, and also to see which kind of role you'd be better suited in.

PWM is much less technical as you would be doing mostly sales/client servicing at a retail investor level, supporting a senior FA with admin tasks, placement of client trade orders, compiling portfolio reviews etc. Over time you may be given the chance to be an FA, either trying to leverage your own connections/network to gain prospects and build a book of clients to service, or hopefully the FA you're servicing retires and hands his/her book down to you (probability of this happening is 50/50 at times).

Check out this thread and the subsequent parts, it should give you a general overview of the role. https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/blog/how-pwm-really-works-part-1-past-p…

My interviews weren't really technical. Just had to know current financial market environment, answer some brain teasers and just be personable.

PWM, PE and IB are all quite different, as are the firms you mentioned (other than the fact all are sweaty).

You’ll probably want to read up hone your focus on one industry — one doesn’t just walk in and grab an Apollo LA internship for laughs (not sure they even hire analysts) — as you’ll be competing against other kids who are lasered in on one role at one firm. Good news is you still have a lot of time.
