best jobs for a student interested in macroeconomics?
what jobs in finance are best for students with deep academic interests in empirical macro. If a student spends alot of time taking graduate coursework and doing research during undergrad, what roles are the best fit? I always assumed there must be roles in the HF/finance space, but I can't find one where a student like this has a comparative advantage against peers who didn't study economics as deeply.
Hey there!
While I can't help you much in how an interest in macro will help/differentiate you in finance jobs, I can shed light on other more macro-related careers if you are interested. I have a PhD in Macroeconomics and while I'm at MBB now, I did have other jobs before that.
More directly related to your question, one of my friends is now the head of macroeconomic forecasting at an IB. So, it looks like they have these kind of roles / depts over there if you want to work as an economist. Another friend of mine works in the scenario analysis dept of another bank (although I think she's in the corporate side, rather than their IB). Those are my 2 data points :)
Best of luck!
Would you think you need a PhD in economics to get there or a master's degree would be enough?
My friends in IB in internal economics functions have Masters only.
