Boston to NYC advice

Hey everyone, would love to get some advice on career progression.

I graduated from a small business school near Boston in 2012 with a 3.04 undergrad gpa (majoring in finance and econ), and have been working as a custody associate (basically back office operations, incredibly mindless, believe it's similar to fund accounting) at State Street Bank for a year and 4 months.

The low pay I can handle but the work, as you can imagine, is unrewarding and repetitive, so I am really looking to make a move into a more research or analytic role, or accounting/auditing. I just need a change. However, my long-distance girlfriend has recently just got into grad school in NYC and has decided to go there, so this is my best opportunity to be live with her, and a chance to leave my current role.

This makes me a little bit more desperate and willing to take a similar role to what I am doing to now, but do you guys see any other type of role that I can apply to that won't be as mind numbing? Do you recommend any educational opportunities that I should try to pursue in the summer or fall, such as a masters (or even a full time MBA)? My goal is to get a finance role in NYC (as soon as possible), but I am flexible, would love auditing/advisory careers as well and want to get an idea of what are attainable roles with my type of profile.

Thanks for reading this and any advice you can offer!
