Business Jobs for CFAs - outside of Asset Management, Equity Research?? Thanks!

If you are young in your career and have the CFA charter, what viable job opportunities do you have outside of Asset Management, Equity Research, and IM? Say, you don't have that much work experience either...

What other business fields would you become attractive for?

If you earned the CFA charter you by definition have four years of finance work experience, so in my mind you would no longer be "young" in your career. If you are referring to passing the exams, I think you have to differentiate between being in finance and in another area.

If you are in finance if gives you a broad base of knowledge for the careers you mentioned, as well as credit risk, certain type of actuary work (you will have to do other exams though) quantitative analysis, and portfolio support.

If you are not in finance it is not going to be a golden ticket by itself, you will need to beat down some door to break in. They exams help but cannot stand alone.

I have seen quite a few charter holders in treasury/CFO type roles, but that is further along in your career typically.

This comment reminded me of other consultants that look for CFA charterholders, the big-4 accounting firms. I know that at least a couple have advisory businesses that do business valuation and IB services for smaller companies. I made it to a superday for a position in a big-4 business valuation practice (didn't get the job). The MP told me that about half of the guys there have CFAs and half have CPAs. What I got from speaking with the guys who work there is that they do a lot of PP&E valuation, goodwill impairment testing, and M&A advising.

I think a lot of people overlook the big-4 but they definitely hire CFAs, and the pay and benefits are outstanding.

Corporate Development really? ..don't those people typically come from IB? And no i am still studying, this was a recent decision. Thanks
