Career goals in alternative Investment/Hedge funds

Is there any particular strategy looking for a job, cause most hedge funds are either found through head-hunters or knowing somebody cause most of the funds are very secretive and do not have public access even company website. I do have lot of access from my current job, and starting to know more about the funds. It is quite different than banks where you can apply online. How much networking opportunity are there using CAIA board. Any help would be appreciate. Also how much value does Series 3 add cause it focuses on futures and commodity as opposed to other series exams. My future goal is as follows have Series 3 passed, CAIA, and have strong excel modeling and VBA programing. All of which will be accomplished by end of September. Planning to take March Level 1 and September Level 2. If I can in between get a job either in research or sales in small fund that would be ideal. Any suggestion cause the job market is very bleak but I hear hedge fund are still prospering in the financial services. Currently working in a Technology firm focusing on Hedge fund strategy and my current role may end Jan or end of Feb as it is project based and it is quite unstable, so I planning to leave by end of Jan for better opportunity. Any suggestion highly appreciated. Please only recommendation or I prefer people who actually passed CAIA and is working in the either fund or Asset Management.

Again appreciate all your help. Hope to hear from somebody.

Your current job has the largest impact on what you can do next (more than CFA or CAIA). Are you willing to do tech work for a hedge fund? What type of tech work do you do?

Based on the timing of your tests and your comments on material it looks like you're taking the Indian CFA (from the ICFAI), which is in my experienced viewed as weaker than the non-Indian CFA.

I don't know anyone in the industry who has a CAIA except marketing and investor relation people.

Reach out to head hunters, cold email, etc. but know that without relevant job experience it's going to be VERY difficult. Have you looked at intermediate steps like sell-side research and banking?

I am based in USA not in India. Planning to take series 3, CAIA and CFA level 1, along with self-studying excel modeling and VBA using excel all focus in Alternative Industry, so I will be studying a lot. All will be accomplished by September end. Goal work in research side in small fund. I do have experience which are transferable. Worked in FOREX, FX as a research analyst, now trying to enter hedge fund. I am research analyst in tech company where I do lot of excel and data entry. Our firm basically give technology strategy to top hedge funds in the tri-state area. Also my current boss has some connection, but not ready to discuss career goals with him. Based on my knowledge especially in this field without any skill sets, you can not network to get either associate or entry level. Lot of my friends are working in a research role once having CAIA passed. Networking is important but no skills no job as per my rule of thumb unless you want to work in sales or retail.
