Defer Target for Experience - Off-Cycle

Hey folks,

So I am in a unique situation wherein I have an acceptance to a target as a transfer for junior year with the option to defer for a year. I am considering trying to find an off-cycle internship for Fall 20 / Winter 21 instead of going to school.

Here's why: - I have absolutely zero professional finance experience - My network is currently very small (won't be able to take advantage of OCR, events, in-person networking) - I am trying to break into target firms for my junior year internship

My concerns/questions are: - Given my lack of experience will I have a better chance of finding something off-cycle? - Will an off-cycle internship be an asset for future recruiting? - Should I just get school over with and not add another year to the undergraduate process?

I'd appreciate any and all thoughts on my logic and assessment of the situation. Is there anything I'm not considering but should?

Thanks so much!

It 100% would be an asset, it's resume experience. All resume experience is an asset, one way or another (as long as it's truthful). In all honesty, it sounds like a pretty good plan what you're considering, as long as you're fine graduating a year late.

You should look into how this would affect your junior year SA recruiting timeline as well, as it happens quite early.
